Duke of Edinburgh -Sierra Bernia Mountain Walk

The latest Duke of Edinburgh International Award mountain walk saw a group of students and teachers tackling the circular Sierra Bernia route.  This involved a steep and slippery climb and then crawling through a dripping cave, to be rewarded with fabulous sunny views of Altea and Benidorm on the south side of the mountain.  There was time for a picnic in the ruins of an old fort before the walkers returned to their starting point, exactly on time.

D of E participants should do some more walks in their own time at the weekends in order to develop and maintain mountain-walking fitness.  Later in the year there will be a practice camping night in order to learn how to pitch and strike a tent and cook on a camping stove.  This is all in preparation for the qualifying expeditions for all Award Levels later in the year.

Gold and Silver participants have been reserving places on the expedition to Morocco in March.  Other participants will be able to do a qualifying adventurous journey locally in the Spring or Summer terms.
